Claas Junghans Dipl.-Chem., Dr. rer. nat., MBA
German Patent Attorney, European Patent Attorney
My technical specialisms are chemistry, biochemistry, cell biology and medicine. I work extensively with inventors from the fields of pharmacy, cell therapy, immunology and molecular diagnostics, particularly in the academic sector.
Besides drafting patents and prosecuting them before the patent offices another important aspect of my work is consulting for newly-formed companies and general managers. Frequently recurring themes here include developing a suitable patent strategy, questions of strategic business development and the negotiation and drafting of licence contracts. For me, the enjoyment of setting up working companies is not restricted to that of a spectator. In the last 20 years I have also helped establish a series of small companies (some of which have become big ones), and am still actively involved in founding companies.
Before founding the practice I had worked for many years in start-up companies in the life sciences sector. The scientific areas these covered were molecular biology, immunology, vaccine development and the pursuit of new active substance structures for pharmaceuticals using modern biophysical methods.
My initial training in chemistry at TU Berlin concentrated on natural product and liquid crystal chemistry. I completed my doctorate in medical molecular biology at the FU Berlin (now the Charité).
